If you’ve shopped at a Sweetbay Supermarket in Florida or the Northeast recently,
your credit or debit card information might be in jeopardy. Sweetbay’s
parent company, Hannaford Brothers, says someone hacked into their computer
network, and stole
4.2 million credit and debit card numbers. At least 1800 cases
of fraud have already been linked to the security breach.
The James Hoyer Law Firm is investigating why and how this major security breach occurred, putting customers’ private, financial information at risk. The data breach began in December of 2007 and continued until it was contained in March of 2008. If you were a Sweetbay customer during this time period and used a credit or debit card, our investigators would like to talk with you.
The company has said signs of the breach were uncovered at the end of February, but did not make the information public for several weeks, increasing the potential risk to customers. Hannaford finally announced the security breach, after the Massachusetts Bankers Association issued a press release warning consumers about a major breach at an unnamed retail chain.
