Mortgage Service Problems

CONSUMER ALERT

Has Countrywide forced an insurance policy onto your house even though you already have adequate coverage? If you are a victim of this problem, known as "forced-place insurance," fill out the form below for a no-cost consultation with an attorney.

On Jan. 22, 2004, we filed a class-action lawsuit against Countrywide in its home state of California, to stop what we alleged to be improper servicing of home mortgage loans, and also to stop the unnecessary and costly imposition of homeowner's insurance policies on property owners who are already covered. We are continuing to investigate allegations against Countrywide. To share your complaint with us, please fill out the form below.

Some homeowners who have their mortgages serviced by Washington Mutual ("WaMu") have reported serious problems with lost or uncredited mortgage payments, property tax payments and home insurance premiums. Some homeowners have reported problems with their escrow accounts. They say that repeated calls to customer service have failed to correct the difficulties. Default notices have mistakenly been sent to homeowners who paid their mortgages on time, causing needless anxiety. Some homeowners also say their credit ratings were damaged as a result of the actions of Washington Mutual.

Washington Mutual has acquired mortgage-servicing duties from Fleet, Bank United, Dime Bancorp and PNC Mortgage. On October 1, 2002 it completed the acquisition of HomeSide Lending, Inc. Smart Money magazine recently reported that if you have a mortgage, there's a one-in-eight chance you send your payments to WaMu. Beside the WaMu complaints, we have also reviewed complaints from people who have their mortgages serviced by Countrywide, another major home lender.

If you have a complaint about the servicing of your mortgage, e-mail us by filling out the form below.
