For decades insurance companies sold "industrial insurance," also known as burial insurance, with the promise it would pay funeral expenses for you or a loved one. The hallmarks of these policies were weekly or monthly premiums of 50 cents or more, and payoffs of a few hundred dollars. Investigations are revealing that these policies were bad deals targeted at African-Americans and other minorities.
