North Shore Agency Consumer Complaints

On Wed, 30 Apr 2008 at 22:50 a consumer in Hillsboro, OR wrote:
My wife did take Prevention magazine for a while, then later cancelled the subscription. She received a North Shore Agency `soft collection` letter demanding a $16.97 so called debt payment last week. I have seen this classic scam before involving unsolicited `pantyhose-of-the-month-club` packages. I was out of town on business last week, so I have just been doing some research and came across your site. I despise these scam tactics that take advantage of consumer`s fears to intimdate them into paying out small sums of money they do not owe. On lots of small dollar amounts, you can get rich quick and/or keep your magazine circulation up to command higher advertizing fees. We will help nail these people if we can (legally, of course). I am about to respond to them in no uncertain terms! I expect we will get the `dog ate the homework` excuse that they `mislaid` her cancellation, but I am not buying it. I will wait a day or so in case you have any comments about that. Best regards

I received the same letter. Tried to call North Shore but only got a recording. Tried to call Rodale Inc but was told, via a recording, that it was not a good day to talk with customer service and that I needed to call back next week. I e-mail a complaint to Rodale but assume it`ll go unanswered. I did subscribe to their magazine in the past (Men`s Health) but never renewed my subscription so I owe them no money. Please keep me updated on your attempts at the lawsuit....someone needs to intervene on behalf of general public who are getting bullied by threatening letters and non-human customer service.

I just received a letter from North Shore Agency saying I owe Men`s Health $28.95 for a subscription I never renewed. I have perfect credit and am worried this will hurt my credit rating. I have just sent North Shore a letter saying I owe nothing to Men`s Health. I haven`t heard anything back yet. What do you recommend I do?

Today (4/21/2008) I`ve recieved a letter from NSA, dated 4/17/2008, for my `deliquent` subscription to `Women`s health` magazine. I did subscribe to this magazine for my wife but she didn`t like I guess. They demand a payment of $15.94. Please advise.

I recieved the threatening notice from North Shore Agency today, 4/18/08. They said I owed $12 for a subscription to Bon Appite Magazine or my credit would be ruined. If I sent the money, I would recieve the magazines. I ripped it up and tossed it. When I get home, I will get it from the garbage. I have been really upset all day due to this notice. I decided to look them up on the internet and found this site.

I chose not to renew my Men`s Health subscription and subsequently received a threatening notice from North Shore Agency Inc. that I owe the renewal fee and that if I did not respond to the letter they would legally call the debt valid. I am absolutely livid! How can they get away with this garbage? I wish you all the best in your investigation.

At least 6 months ago if not more, I filled out a post card to receive 4 trial issues of US Weekly magazine. If I deceided to keep the subscription I was to send in my money. I chose not to keep the magazine & haven`t heard from US Weekly since. Until about 5 days ago when I received a letter from North Shore Agency stating they were trying to collect a debt for their client US Weekly. I was under no obligation to get this subscription and I am irritated that this agency is sending me notices. I want the harassment to stop and someone to put an end to this company`s harassing tactics.

I received a letter from NSA, Inc demanding payment ($14.95) for a renewal subscription to Rolling Stone mag. I did not renew my subscription to RS as I was annoyed for their many subscription renewal notices received from them. In fact, my account to RS indicates that it is cancelled but I still received a `nasty gram` from NSA. I have contacted RS per e-mail and informed them that I refuse to pay! TM

My husband and I have been dealing with Revolver magazine and North Shore Agency for months. I canceled the subscription to the magazine as our son no longer wanted it, but received many dunning collection letters from North Shore Agency, despite our calls to tell them to stop. Fearing for our son Jacob`s credit rating since his name was on the magazine subscription, I finally paid North Shore to stop the collection letters. The result - we now have a new subscription for Revolver. I called Revolver to cancel and they said they could not. The subscription was ordered by North Shore. I called North shore to ask for the cancellation and a refund. They said they must contact Revolver to let them know that we wish to cancel and ask for the refund. After I complained and mentioned that their way of doing business was unethical, the customer service representative said that she had no say in what `marketing` does. She also said that she would ask Revolver for the refund and tell them that the reason was that we had renewed under duress!

I do not work for nsa but am a customer service rep for a publishing company who uses North Shore. The threat of `collection` on automatic renewals is riduclous. How can you claim a debt on a renewal of a magazine not wanted by the customer? My company has told us the reps that it is `non reporting` but who cares, it is an ignorant and rude attempt to scare old people into paying for something they do not want. I will be leaving a company who on the outside is outstanding but refuses to address this issue that North shore is not retaining customers but pushing them away. I am comprising my values to work for a company who uses North Shore as a bully money grabber. It preys on the less intelligent and easily threatened folks who believe everything they read.
